Review – What Lies Within

“I look around and people appear to be screaming from the way their mouths are moving, but I can’t hear them. It feels like a slow-motion scene from a movie but the TV remote’s been set to mute”

What Lies Within starts off a bit disjointed which initially gave me pause.  Smith’s protagonist, Arthur, comes off somewhat disingenuous in the first few chapters.  But I soon realized this feeling of discomfort is exactly what Smith wants for his readers, as I experienced along with Arthur that “happily ever after” is not only messy but inauthentic at times.  In 76 short pages, Smith sprinkles in a pinch of everything. Romance, betrayal, revenge, horror… the list goes on. I recommend What Lies Within for readers who need a brief moment of catharsis and/or introspection. Smith will get the job done!
